For the State of Qatar and for Qatargas, the Qatari gas story is a unique success story. Since the export of the first LNG from Qatargas, we have seen the whole map of the energy industry in Qatar change. Today, the State of Qatar has become the biggest LNG producer in the world with a production capacity of 77 million tonnes per annum (MTA). For the Qatari people and Qatari society, it has had a very positive impact on our lives, prosperity and well-being. It affects our economy and the development of our country.
Qatar is now firmly established as the global player in the LNG market, providing reliable energy security to all four corners of the world. Qatar today is also operating the biggest LNG shipping company in the world, enabling Qatari LNG to reach the whole world in an efficient timeframe, reliably and safely.
Qatargas has played a significant role in this development and, since its establishment in 1984, has pioneered the LNG industry in Qatar. Today, as it’s Chairman, I am proud to say that Qatargas is the largest LNG producing company in the whole world. The Qatari people and the employees of Qatargas should be very proud of this accomplishment in such a short period of time. Through the dedication of the employees of Qatargas, we are now celebrating continued supply to Japan and the addition of many new customer markets in all four corners of the world. Qatargas has been able to achieve this by maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards coupled with the use of the cultural diversity of its manpower as a source of strength. We should all be enormously proud of these achievements.
Qatar’s and Qatargas’ international relationships are very important. We should thank His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, for his vision and leadership, which has moved Qatar to a different place. Qatar today is recognised as having one of the most respected leaderships in the world, and this reputation, as an effective international player, has enhanced Qatargas in establishing trust with its stakeholders, which has been a vital part of the company’s success. We are continuously looking to maintain our relationships with foreign companies through our LNG joint ventures in Qatar. Importantly, in support of the State, Qatargas has been working very hard as a reliable supplier of LNG.
For the future, we now need to continue to emphasise the efficiency, reliability and safety of our production facilities. Ahead of us is an exciting and challenging era and we know Qatargas is geared up for the challenges ahead.
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada
Minister of Energy & Industry
Chairman of Qatargas Board of Directors
