Qatargas 1 has a fleet of 10 purpose-built vessels, each with a capacity of 135,000 cubic meters (4.8 million cubic feet) currently in operation for the transportation of LNG from Qatargas to its Japanese buyers.
Each vessel contains five Moss-Rosenberg design spherical LNG tanks. Its normal cruising speed is about 20 knots, which translates into a return voyage time between Qatar and Japan of about one month.
Qatargas has selected names of the LNG vessels to reflect the main cities and areas in Qatar.
