As a continuous support to the national initiative encouraging active participation in the sporting activities with colleagues and family, Qatargas employees brought energy and a winning spirit as they eagerly participated in this year's 'Qatar National Sport Day' held on 11 February 2020.
To Qatargas, sports are an obvious and natural way to bring diverse people together with fun activities that, if practiced regularly, translate to healthier lives.
Commenting on this, Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer, Qatargas, said: “It cannot be emphasised enough the benefit of adopting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This highly anticipated annual event is an integral part of the Company's commitment to promoting the health and well-being of its employees and their families."
The Company celebrated Qatar National Sport Day at both Aspire Zone in Doha, and Al Khor Community sports facility. The company showcased a wide variety of sporting options to appeal to all ages and all interests. In Doha, the day began with a walkathon. Activities included football, volleyball, basketball, kickboxing, aerobics and stationary exercise bikes. For younger participants, activities included a dribble challenge, jumping sacks and tug of war. Al Khor hosted similar activities, but also included badminton, cricket, a cycling race, 100m run, children's swimming and a martial arts demonstration.
As a way to motivate participants to strive for sporting excellence, Qatargas featured employee Ibrahim Al-Harami. Mr. Al-Harami, from the Environment Regulatory & Compliance Division within Qatargas is sponsored by the company to take part in Samla Race 2020 in April. Last year, he secured 2nd place on Samla Race - an extreme desert trek that challenges even the most athletic sportsmen.
Building a healthy and productive society is a key objective of the Human Development Pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030, as well as an integral objective of Qatargas' Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
