Qatargas receives Qatarization Crystal Award for support in training and development for second consecutive year

Under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas received the prestigious Crystal Award for supporting Qatarization in the area of ‘Training & Development’ for the second consecutive year, which was announced during the Energy Sector’s Annual Qatarization Review Meeting.

The Annual Qatarization Review Meeting was held virtually on Sunday, July 4th, 2021 with attendance from various companies from the energy sector in Qatar. The purpose of the annual Qatarization Awards is to recognize companies who have consistently exhibited excellence during the prior calendar year in any of the four main categories which cover: 1) Support and Liaison with the Education Sector, 2) Supporting Qatarization, 3) Support for Training and Development, and 4) Best Qatarization Progress. 

Qatargas CEO Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani stated: “We are very proud to be recognized with this distinguished award, especially during a time we have been severely tested by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is with great admiration that I have witnessed the Qatargas organization demonstrate sustained resilience while continuing to give priority to achieving our important Qatarization goals. I am confident that our comprehensive learning environment will help us continue in our journey to develop an even stronger workforce in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030.”

Qatargas invests significant time, effort and resources to support and develop its workforce through training and development.  As part of this, Qatargas has prioritized the delivery of high-quality learning during the pandemic, and this has had a positive impact on the business.  Qatargas’ approach to development follows a training model emphasizing 70% on the job experience, 20% coaching, and 10% classroom’ instructions.


One example of new initiatives implemented during 2020, Qatargas applied an assessment with Investors in People for alignment to international standard & awarded GOLD accreditation proving continuous development. Another is the launch of Learning Management System as part of SuccessFactors project, which helps automate & standardize training processes. Due to COVID-19, classroom training converted to virtual / e-learning i.e. behavioral, leadership, technical trainings to close gaps and ensure it will not impact employees’ development and close any competence gaps. Collaboration with Skillsoft, Harvard ManageMentor and HEC Paris to provide extra e-learning & webinars to targeted staff to support their development. Hosted Leadership Alumni session & seminars virtually to share knowledge & network. Working from home e-Learning developed & covered tips & techniques to support employees during pandemic. Finally, Qatargas launched a new Mentorship Program to support national developees to increase learning experience during their development program.
