Qatargas Operating Company Limited (Qatargas) sponsored and presented the Best Overall Prize at the 16th Annual Plant Design Competition, organised by Qatar University's Chemical Engineering Department. With a rich legacy dating back to 2004, Qatargas and Qatar University's Chemical Engineering Department are proud to provide students with opportunities to gain world-class engineering experience.
With 22 teams vying for the prestigious prize, the completion was of an exceptionally high standard. Emerging as victors was the “Top Tech Team" who showcased their design of a Condensate Refining Process and Ethylene Glycol Process. They carried out the feasibility study of their design in Qatar by establishing the market demand trend, consumption trend, and the markets for their product, whilst prioritising the environmental impact assessment and emissions reduction aspects.
Qatargas Chief Engineering & Projects Officer, Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani, Dr. Rashid Sultan Al-Kuwari, Asset & Surveillance Engineering Manager and Ahmed Jaber Al-Mohannadi Head of Surveillance presented the prizes to the winning team at a special ceremony held at Qatargas Doha Head Office. Dr. Easa Al-Musleh and Fadwa ElJack, professors of Chemical Engineering at Qatar University, and other faculty members from the University also attended the event.
Prior to the award ceremony, the student teams showcased their award entries during 20-minute presentations before addressing questions from the judging panel. Representing Qatargas on the judging panel where Ahmed Jaber Al-Mohannadi, Head of Surveillance Engineering, and Jassim Al-Shammali, Head of Measurement.
